Laura Dekker, a New Zealand-born Dutch sailor took a solo trip around the world at the age of 14, becoming the youngest individual to circumnavigate the globe on a sail boat.

Laura initially intended to start this epic trip at the age of 13 however her dream was delayed because a Dutch court stepped in and prevented her from departing while under shared custody of both her parents.
In 2010, the court ended this custody arrangement and Laura finally set sail from Gibraltar for her record-breaking attempt around the world in a 12.4 metre (40 ft) two-masted ketch.
While sailing, Laura also conducted her school education through self-learning material. After 518 days sailing west and at the age of 16, Laura successfully completed her solo circumnavigation arriving in Simpson Bay, in Sint Maarten.
