Spacious Island Luxury
An exhilarating helicopter ride over mountains, baobabs and shipwrecks dotting the wild coastline ends in a gentle landing on a remote private island off the coast of Madagascar. EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS
Snorkelling
Coral reefs fringe the island, so you can snorkel right from the beach in front of your villa. When you arrive, the activities team will kit you out with snorkelling gear that you can keep throughout your stay. You can also venture further afield by boat to explore reefs nearby, such as the phenomenal Nosy Manambiby.
Fishing
Miavana is an excellent destination for fishing. Top of the line equipment and a passionate, experienced team are available. Try your hand at catch-and-release deep-sea fishing, jigging, popping, trolling or fly-fishing on the reef flats. Around Miavana, you will find species such as sailfish, marlin, mahi mahi, giant trevally, dogtooth tuna and barracuda.
Kayaking
Whether you would simply like to paddle around in the safety of the bay or take on the challenge of a round-the island trip, there is always something to suit every taste.
Kiteboarding
Miavana is a kiteboarder’s paradise, with warm waters, consistent trade winds from mid May to October, and a wide diversity of kite spots around the island – all of which can be enjoyed in complete privacy and exclusivity. There’s also opportunity to explore locations further afield with helicopters.
Guided Island Tours
Hop on a quad bike (ATV) to explore the island from top to toe. Miavana is 5km long by 2km wide, with 10 square kilometres of land to explore. Pass through a local village and stop off at the Lighthouse, which offers spectacular 360-degree views across the archipelago to the mountains on Madagascar’s mainland.
Nature Walks
Head out on your own to explore the island’s trails or enjoy a guided nature walk for an introduction to Miavana’s abundant fauna and flora. There is the possibility of seeing the world’s biggest chameleon and one of its smallest as well as nonvenomous snakes, a variety of butterflies and bountiful bird life. A night walk at full moon or when the stars are bright is highly recommended.
Bird Watching
Take a boat trip to a nearby island in the archipelago to see four species of Terns, predominantly Sooty Terns, at one of the largest nesting sites in the Indian Ocean. From mid-May to September, over 40 000 breeding pairs arrive on Manamphao. Combined with a castaway beach picnic on its uninhabited shores, this is an experience that can’t be beat.

A Secluded Sanctuary in an Azure Sea
Miavana is located on the largest of five islands in a remote archipelago off the northeastern coast of Madagascar, accessible only by helicopter from Diego Suarez and Nosy Be airports. Discovered 30 years ago by our partner Jean Christophe, an entrepreneur and treasure hunter who believed in conserving the area, this archipelago is a natural wonderland waiting to be explored.
Miavana has an interesting history – a transient location for seasonal fisherman, then a secret hideaway for pirates, and more recently a thriving seaweed farm, thanks its nutrient-rich waters. In 1998, Ibis Algoculture was created as a way to preserve the area, reduce fishing pressure and provide alternate employment through algae production. Still in operation, the seaweed farm moved to a nearby location and made way for sustainable tourism on Miavana, Madagascar’s most exclusive private island resort with conservation and community at its core.
It took four years to create Miavana. Four years of planting over 100,000 indigenous trees, painstakingly restoring the natural vegetation and using only natural and recycled materials to create the ultimate private villas. Dotted along the pristine beach, Miavana’s 14 villas are a masterpiece in luxury. Fringed by white sand shores and sprawling coral reefs, Miavana stays true to the island’s secluded roots, creating a luxurious haven where guests can enjoy our signature Miavana experience.
