EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS
Esna
When you arrive at Esna, a bustling merchant town about 33 miles south of Luxor, you'll meet the crew and embark on your dahabiya. One of the town's highlights is the small, ancient Temple of Khnum, which is situated 9 meters below street level. Before setting sail, take a short walk to the temple and explore the vibrant streets filled with stunning textiles and other unique treasures.
El Kab
El Kab, located on the East bank of the Nile, used to be the capital of Upper Egypt and houses the impressive temple of Nekhbet. The mountainside is adorned with a row of striking tombs that are worth a visit. Once you dock, take a scenic stroll through a charming fishing village to reach the necropolis.
Edfu
Later in the day, you'll reach Edfu, where you can marvel at the remarkably well-preserved Greco-Roman temple dedicated to Horus. To reach the temple, you'll take a horse and carriage ride through the bustling streets of the city. Afterward, you'll return to the boat and set sail towards a stunning island.
Sail & Swim
On this day, the focus is on the river. After enjoying an optional morning walk and breakfast, you'll embark on a sailing journey. In the afternoon, you'll pause at an island to take a leisurely stroll or a refreshing dip in the Nile. As dusk approaches, you may have the opportunity to hike into the desert along a valley flanked by boulders adorned with ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs and stone-age inscriptions. These carvings mark the start of the shortest trail to Libya through the desert, which took 28 days in ancient times. At night, the boat will dock at the base of the illuminated Gebel Silsileh temple.
Gebel Silsileh
At this point, the Nile is at its narrowest as it flows between two mountain ranges, making for a captivating sight. This unique location attracts fewer visitors as large Nile cruisers are prohibited from stopping here. After exploring the small temple of Horemheb and wandering through the sandstone quarries, where the ancient Egyptians sourced stones for many renowned temples, you'll visit a charming café for a relaxing break over tea and shisha. Your journey will continue with a sail to a delightful riverbank, where you can enjoy lunch and take a refreshing swim.
Kom Ombo
Following a serene night under the stars on the water, you'll begin your morning journey to the charming town and temple of Kom Ombo. This temple was erected during the Ptolemaic era on the site of an earlier temple and is situated at a breathtaking bend in the river, making it one of the most picturesque locations. Dedicated to Sobek, the deity with a crocodile head, the temple is a remarkable sight to behold. Once you've savored the temple's beauty, you'll explore the new Crocodile Museum, which houses numerous mummified crocodiles. These artifacts are a testament to the significance of the creature in this region during ancient times.
Aswan
As the sun rises over Aswan Bridge, you'll wake up to a breathtaking view of the desert enveloping the river. Sadly, this is where your dahabiya cruise will conclude. However, you'll leave feeling rejuvenated and invigorated from your journey along the Nile. The memories of your tranquil voyage will stay with you long after you leave the boat.
A Unique and Authentic Experience on the Nile
Nour El Nil’s Adelaide cruise offers a unique and authentic experience on the Nile. With the use of dahabiyas, passengers can enjoy the longest navigation time between Luxor and Aswan and visit rarely visited sites and villages along the way. Unlike motor-driven “false” dahabiyas, Adelaide is an authentic dahabiya that truly sails. The cruise starts every Monday from Luxor and ends on Saturday just outside Aswan near the Aswan Bridge. Nour El Nil’s philosophy is to offer passengers the most original, enjoyable, and complete trip possible on the Nile.
Culinary Delights of the Nile
Embark on a culinary adventure aboard the Adelaide Nour EL Nil cruise. Discover the rich flavors of Egyptian cuisine with gourmet dishes such as grilled kebabs and aromatic tagines which champion locally-sourced ingredients and are complemented by an excellent selection of Egyptian wines. Journey Through Time:
Experience the authentic charm of cruising the Nile River on board the Nour el Nil Adelaide, one of the traditional wooden barges that have been a part of this majestic waterway for over 4,000 years. During your cruise you’ll be able to visit the Greco-Roman Temple of Khnum and marvel at the partially excavated structure that sits almost 9 meters below ground, and see the fascinating site of Gebel el-Silsila, where larger cruisers are not able to stop. Come aboard the Nour el Nil Adelaide and experience a truly authentic and unforgettable Nile River cruise that will transport you back in time to a world of ancient wonders and cultural riches.
