The Foundation was established after Satopia Group CEO and co-founder, Emma Ponsonby first visited Nepal in January 2014. The idea for the foundation grew organically from Emma sharing her personal experience in Nepal where she first met some of the people who inspired us by their courage, bravery and commitment to supporting their local communities. Currently the foundation is sponsoring 14 students at Springdale School in the Kathmandu Valley. Many of these children have heartbreaking stories, and through the unity many inspiring people we are able to give them and their families a better chance for a brighter future through education.

By booking with Satopia Travel, every voyage you take with us we donate 1% of our revenue to The Foundation, sponsoring students in their education and contributing to the building of a new school for 500 students and teachers. You are welcome to make an additional donation directly to the foundation here. 100% of all donations go directly to Springdale School, or other initiatives that you would like to contribute to through the foundation. A statement always present with the leadership at Springdale Secondary Boarding School (ESB), driven by the Founder Principal, Shivajee Shrestha and his son Biju Shrestha, two people who have greatly inspired the The Foundation. Throughout Shivajee’s life, he has been dedicated to improving the standards of education in Kathmandu Valley, he is an inspirational figure through the social work he’s done for the local communities in the Kathmandu Valley in the areas of education, sanitation, employment and sports. Of these project, there is the Springdale School, local factories and a school for disabled children.

Satopia Travel is a member of the Pledge 1% global movement. This relationship means we donate 1% of our revenue to The Foundation.
Pledge 1% is a global movement to create a new normal in which giving back is integrated into the DNA of companies of all sizes. Pledge 1% encourages and challenges individuals and companies to Pledge 1% of equity, profit, product, and/or employee time for their communities. Pledge 1% is spearheaded by Salesforce, Atlassian, Rally, and Tides. Thousands of companies in almost 100 countries have taken the pledge.
