Deplar Farm

A former sheep farm under a living turf roof, alone in the Fljót Valley of Iceland's Troll Peninsula, where helicopters ski you from summit to sea and a geothermal pool steams in the snow.

The Lodge

A turf roof in a snowed-in valley, and helicopters at the door.

Deplar Farm sits alone in the Fljót Valley on the Troll Peninsula, one of the snowiest corners of north Iceland: thirteen rooms under a living turf roof, a valley to itself, and nothing beyond the windows but mountains and weather.

In winter and spring the helicopters ski you from the summits to the sea; in summer the valley turns to salmon rivers, sea kayaks and whales under the midnight sun. The geothermal pool steams year round, and the northern lights come with the dark.

01 Accommodation

Thirteen rooms under a living turf roof.

The lodge keeps the shape of the old sheep farm: black timber, a turf roof that runs into the hillside, and thirteen warm rooms behind thick walls, with the valley white or green beyond every window.

Held together the rooms sleep up to thirty-two; the whole farm is taken exclusively with ease.

02 Culinary

North Iceland, cooked at one long table.

The kitchen cooks what the coast and the valley give: langoustine and cod from the fjords, lamb from the hills, salmon from the rivers, served at the long table after the day outside.

Dinner bends to the day you have had; your designer arranges the private dining.

03 Experiences

Heli-skiing to the sea, and the valley's long summer.

From late winter into June the helicopters lift from the lawn to ski the Troll Peninsula's summits, long descents that can end on the beach. Snowmobiles, fat bikes and ski touring fill the quieter days.

Summer turns the valley over to salmon rivers, sea kayaking, riding and whale watching; from autumn the northern lights take the sky.

04 Wellness

Geothermal water, steaming in the snow.

The outdoor pool is geothermally heated and swims out from the lodge, steam rising into the cold; sauna, treatment rooms and a gym sit behind it.

A cold plunge, a long soak and the lights overhead is the local ritual.

05 Service

Mountain guides in-house, and one designer over it all.

The farm runs with its own guides and pilots, people who read the valley's weather daily and shape each day to it, alongside a warm house team.

Behind them sits your Satopia travel designer, who holds the rooms, times the helicopter and stays one call away throughout.

06 Setting

The Troll Peninsula: north of almost everything.

The Fljót Valley is one of the snowiest places in Iceland, a fold of the Troll Peninsula where the mountains run straight into the Greenland Sea and the nearest neighbours are a valley away.

Midnight sun in June; northern lights from September to April. The remoteness is the luxury.

Satopia Insider

In their own words.

A few words from guests who have stayed at the farm, lightly shortened from their own reviews.

Skied from a summit to the black-sand beach before lunch, then watched the lights from the steaming pool. The guides read the valley like a book. Nowhere else compares.

We took the whole farm for a family week. The team outnumbered us, the food was remarkable, and the valley was entirely ours. Remote in the very best sense.

Extend your stay

Want to stay a little longer?
We'll plan that too.

Iceland rewards a wider loop. A few we would pair the farm with, each arranged as one seamless experience.
