From the Founders
Welcome to the Fall Edition of Perspective
Welcome to the Satopia Community newsletter, where you'll find the latest news, recent reviews and pre-launch announcements about upcoming hosted experiences.
The year has folded over into autumn, which is the season we like best for writing to you, because it is the only point in the calendar where you can see the whole year at once: the part that has happened, and the part still to come.
Since we last wrote, the year has moved quickly. In August, Skift named Satopia one of eight Trailblazer finalists in global travel, and Satopia Travel was shortlisted for the Future Icons Awards. In September we published the Privé 100, in partnership with Elite Traveler, who featured the list. It brings together 100 of the world’s most private places: many we have been booking as tailormade private experiences for you over the past ten years, and some exciting new properties alongside them. We joined The World’s 50 Best Hotels for its annual evening in Paris, and behind the scenes we have rebuilt how we work, so an answer now comes back to you in minutes rather than days.
Next year begins in Marrakech and the High Atlas in March, then Patagonia with Francis in April. In June we gather in Provence for Elkemist, and in July we head back into the Andes with Francis for winter, fire and snow. In September we take a small group to Bhutan and Nepal with Aman, and in October, finally, we sail the Nile, for those of you who have been asking for years. We close the year in Kenya, at Sirai House, in December.
Wherever the end of this year takes you, we hope it involves a long table, a late evening, and the people worth staying up for. We look forward to welcoming you on a Satopia Hosted Experience™ soon.
With love,

Skift Names Satopia One of Eight Trailblazersin Global Travel
In August, Satopia co-founder Emma Ponsonby was named one of eight finalists in the 2026 Skift IDEA Awards, in the Trailblazer Award: Women Shaping the Future of Travel category, chosen from a record 492 entries submitted worldwide for the eighth year of the awards. The award itself went to Heidi Clarke of the Sandals Foundation, announced on 26 August, and it went to a good home.
We are telling you because of what the entry was actually about, which was not a company and not a founder. It was Elkemist, the Impact Fund, and the argument that a travel business can be built to move money and attention toward people who need both. That case was made with your names on it. Every gathering and every pledge came from this community, which means the nomination belongs here rather than on a shelf in Paris.
Emma founded Satopia with Ahmed ten years ago, with a deliberate view of who we wanted as guests and partners, and an equally deliberate view of what the company was for. The recognition is a pleasant confirmation that the second part was the right bet.
Country & Town House
Satopia Shortlistedfor the Future Icons Awards 2027
Satopia Travel has been shortlisted in the Responsible Travel Experience category at the Future Icons Awards 2027, Country & Town House's celebration of joyful purpose and ethical leadership. The awards spotlight the brands and individuals driving positive change for people and planet, judged on what actually shifts rather than what is promised. For us the shortlist sits close to the work itself: hosted experiences built with the people who live in a place, and the Elkemist Impact Fund carrying the contribution forward.

The Next Edition of theSatopia Giving Gathering
A room in which people who could each do something significant alone decide to do something larger together.
Elkemist is four years old this year, and it has changed shape every single year, because the gathering was never the point. What we have been trying to build, slowly, is a room in which people who could each do something significant alone decide to do something larger together.
In June 2027 we take Elkemist to Provence, to a private estate, for five days. This edition is the fullest expression of it so far, and for the first time there are three ways to be there. Patron Experiences, for those who want to be part of the architecture of the gathering itself. Private villas, for those who bring their family or the people they are closest to and want their own rhythm alongside the programme. And day experiences, for those who want the conversation and the dining experiences without the accommodation.
Nadia Murad will be with us again, alongside her foundation. Many of you met Nadia at Villa del Balbianello on Lake Como in 2025, and in April this year she was awarded France's Légion d'honneur by President Macron at the Élysée Palace. It is a recognition of extraordinary courage, and it is also, in her own words, a call to act rather than to applaud. More contributors and special guests follow through the autumn.
Booking opened to this community on 12 August, before anyone else, and rooms have been going since. Early booking rates apply until 1 November, subject to availability.

Meet Our 2027 Foundation Partners
Four foundations will be with us in Provence: Nadia Murad and Nadia’s Initiative in Sinjar, Iraq; Bijoux Shrestha and Springdale School in Bhaktapur, Nepal; Rosemary Nenini and the Twala-Tenabo Manyatta in Laikipia, Kenya; and Rosemary Nalden’s Buskaid Trust in Soweto, South Africa. We would like you to meet them before you decide whether to join us.

The Privé 100The World’s Most Private Places by Satopia Travel
A hundred of the world’s most private places. Ten distinct categories. One carefully curated collection.
Built on a decade of first-hand knowledge and independent research, the collection spans extraordinary private islands, remote safari lodges, private yachts, iconic trains and exceptional hideaways.
Selection is entirely independent. No submissions, sponsorships or paid placements. Each property earns its place on merit.
From places our guests have loved for years to remarkable new discoveries, the Privé 100 is an invitation to explore the world differently.

From Pursuit
What makes a hotel one of the best in the world?
The best hotels in the world descended on Paris in September for a two-day celebration and the reveal of the top 50, and Satopia's Ahmed Gouda was in the room, asking the people who run them one question: what actually makes a hotel one of the best in the world in 2026? Their answers had little to do with facilities. What they described was a place with a point of view, and the feeling of being at home inside it, which is the same instinct behind every Satopia Hosted Experience™.

Building the Way Small Group Travel Should Work
Small group travel is the hardest kind to do well. Different rhythms, one table, and a hundred small details that decide whether a week feels effortless. This year we have been developing better ways for small groups to travel together, so that every part of it feels easier for you.
Answers on availability and options now come back to you in minutes. Your itinerary, your documents and the people travelling with you sit together in one place, so nothing is lost across months of emails. And with the details settled before you arrive, our time goes where it should: on getting to know you, and on knowing the places well enough to make the week feel like your own.

Out of Five Thousand, Just 100
In September, Elite Traveler featured the Privé 100. Ten years of travel, five thousand properties seen first-hand, and the one hundred that made the cut: the piece looks at how the list is assembled, and why a best-of list is never borrowed from press kits or someone else’s awards ceremony.
