The Islands
“It’s environmental nirvana: hummingbirds and iguanas far outnumber humans and three quarters of the land remains untouched.”
— THE TIMES —
On the search for for total seclusion? You’ll be hard-pressed to top this beautiful eco-resort in Panama’s Gulf of Chiriqui. Part of a 14-isle archipelago owned by an avid conservationist, there are just seven casitas secreted among the lush vegetation, four with private pools and thatched-roof cabanas offering unbeatable ocean views.
With 13 of the 14 islands left untouched, the immersive experiences bring guests up close to the raw, natural beauty of the Gulf of Chiriqui in Panama’s wild Pacific Coast. From nature trails to whale watching, surfing, scuba diving and wellness activities deeply rooted in the surroundings, nothing is more loved than sharing ethos of adventure, discovery and conservation with the guests.
EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS
Whale-watching
Whale watching in the Gulf of Chiriquí and Coiba National Park offers an exceptional experience, the only known wintering area shared by both southern and northern hemisphere humpback whales. A small population migrates here between December and April, and July to October sees the arrival of a larger population of breeding humpbacks.
Hiking
With over two miles of groomed trails on the main island, you might pass the giant 300-year-old Cedro Grande tree, gaze at La Bufadora, a giant local blowhole which sprays 60 feet into the air, or emerge on Playa Canales for a stroll amongst the giant driftwood that naturally collects there. Hikes finish at Punta Buena Vista, with its cool breezes and views out over to Isla Pargo.
Kayaking
Expert guides know all the best coves and crannies and will take you out to our outlying islands to explore by kayak. Paddle around caves, marvel at blow holes, watch birds circle above and take in the incredible variety of flora clinging to the cliff edges. Or help yourself to a kayak from the well-equipped Watersports Center and explore in your own time.
Diving
Diving in the Gulf of Chiriquí provides a glimpse of one of the least explored and most abundant marine ecosystems on the planet. The 20 dive sites around the protected archipelago and into world-famous Coiba National Park are suited to all levels of experience, from calm, colorful inshore coral reefs, to deep water exploration, drifting around seamounts and pinnacles amidst manta rays and dolphins.
Birding
With over 80 species of resident and migratory birds, guests can spot a huge range of exotic species around Islas Secas. A highlight is boating over to Isla Coco, part of the archipelago, for thrilling views of one of Panama’s largest colonies of soaring frigatebirds, as well as rare brown-footed boobies and peregrine falcons.
Fishing
From off-shore, ethical catch-and-release tuna and marlin fishing programs, to finding the best spots in Panama to hook snappers, grouper and roosterfish, the team of experts will create an unforgettable fishing experience for any level.
Coiba National Park
This UNESCO World Heritage Site, just an hour’s boat ride from Islas Secas, is one of Panama and Central America’s finest natural wonders, home to the second-largest coral reef in the Eastern Pacific and known for its exceptional primary rainforest.
Beach BBQ
Choose your castaway spot and let the team bring the feast to you. Making the most of the ocean's bounty, just caught seafood is grilled over a smoking fire on the sand, creating a beguiling private beach experience beneath a canopy of stars.
Plants & Wildlife at Islas Secas
Islas Secas is devoted to its natural surroundings, 750 species of fish, 97 bird species and 128 species of plants… and it’s a quick boat ride from Coiba National Park, a UNESCO-designated Protected Marine Area, home to the second-largest coral reef in the eastern tropical Pacific. Islas Secas offers unparalleled access to this extraordinary corner of the world, with immersive, responsible activities where guests can experience everything from endemic tropical birds and soaring frigates to giant manta rays, humpback whales and kaleidoscopic schools of reef fish.
Gastronomy
“This private island off Panama’s wild Pacific Coast is a latter’s day Noah’s Ark.”
— THE TIMES —
