CELEBRITY CHEF, AUTHOR & RESTAURATEUR

Carlo Cracco is a chef who has devoted his entire life to carving out a place in culinary history. His Michelin-star restaurant in Milan has been named one of the “Best 50 Restaurants” in the world.

Born in Vicenza, Cracco attended hotel management school before training under the legendary Gualtiero Marchesi who is considered to be the founder of modern Italian cuisine in Milan. It was in Marchesi’s kitchen that Cracco learned and witnessed the birth of modern Italian cuisine first-hand. This kitchen would become the first outside of France to win three Michelin-stars. Cracco went on to work with Alain Ducasse at the Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo and Alain Senderens at the Lucas Carton in Paris. Later on, Cracco brought back the knowledge and discipline he acquired back to Italy in 1991. Cracco then took over L’Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence, which won two Michelin stars under his guidance. Soon after, Cracco opened Le Clivie in Piedmont, earning one Michelin-star.

With the allure of Milan as the magnet for Italian gastronomy too strong to resist, Cracco went on a partnership to open a restaurant called Peck-Cracco, which was awarded two Michelin stars. Soon the restaurant became known simply as ‘Cracco’, and it became his culinary home. After 17 years, the restaurant relocated to the most prestigious location in the city, in the prestigious Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, one of Europe’s oldest active shopping malls.

Cracco’s food made him famous, but his appearances on Italian TV have made him a star! Appearing on shows such as MasterChef and Hell’s Kitchen has sealed his place in the Italian national consciousness. In his latest popular cooking travelogue Dinner Club, Cracco travels with six Italian cinema and TV stars to eat, cook and rediscover specialities from six regions around Italy. Cracco has also written a series of cookbooks, including Cracco: Sapori in Movimento (Cracco: Flavours in Motion), and A Qualcuno Piace Cracco (Some Like Cracco), which delves into the archives of Italian regional cooking.

Simple monastic architecture meets striking modernist interiors at Sikelia, a boutique retreat in a dramatic setting. Housed within porcelain-white dammusi, ancient stone buildings typical of this part of Italy, this is an atmospheric escape with effortless style.

High on a hill on the island, Sikelia is perfectly in harmony with both its history and surroundings of lava-strewn landscape. Expect crisp, clean lines and a muted, monochrome palette, high vaulted ceilings and archways, as well as a gorgeous palm-lined pool. The stylishly decorated suites take inspiration from the island’s volcanic terrain, with eye-catching works by contemporary artist Gennaro Avallone.

Specchio di Venere Lake Enjoy a gourmet picnic at “Venus Mirror” with its heart-shaped lake in a volcanic crater. The inland lake is fed by rainwater and hot springs, and of a colour that modulates from emerald to aquamarine to turquoise to deep blue. The lake’s rejuvenating mud is both luxuriously self-indulgent and gratifyingly therapeutic

The Mediterranean Sea Pantelleria’s gorgeous secluded coves are perfect for snorkelling, diving and boat excursions. The indented coast shelters coves and swimming spots off the black rocks as well as marine grottos. We’ve got a sunset yacht cruise lined up for our guests to experience the thermal hot springs studding the seabed just off the coast and marvel at the island from the sea.

Coste Ghirlanda Vineyard Zibibbo grapes, grown nowhere else in the world, thrive low to the ground in small hollows that retain moisture and provide shade. Harvested by hand, the muscat grapes—whose meticulous cultivation is the only agricultural practice on the UNESCO World Heritage list—are used to make the island’s famous dessert wine, Passito di Pantelleria.
