Sustainable Luxury In An Idyllic Setting

Lagoon Activites
Explore the lagoons and alcoves with a range of water activities. Head out onto the water on a stand up paddle board or in a kayak and paddle towards the pristine beaches, or discover Bawah’s underwater world with snorkelling. Bawah Reserve is also surrounded by 12 dive sites to explore the abundance of flourishing coral reefs and marine life.
Discover the Local Culture
At Bawah, guests can participate in immersive cooking classes with the resort's chefs, exploring the flavors and techniques of Indonesian cuisine using locally sourced ingredients. For a creative experience, visitors can join batik painting classes, crafting their own unique designs and learning about the rich tradition of this Indonesian fabric art. These activities offer a delightful way to engage with the local culture and crafts during their stay at Bawah.
Conservation Dives
This special experience allows you to join the team from the Anambas Foundation on one of their marine conservation dives to help transplant and preserve coral or assist with underwater clean-ups to help protect the natural reef.
Boat Excursions
Get out on the water with a boat excursion around the lagoons and beyond, or take out one of the easy-to-use catamarans. The family friendly activity is suitable for experienced sailors who want to glide around the turquoise lagoons to take in the magical views, and for beginners who want to learn the ropes with an expert member of the team.
Jungle Hikes
Take a hike through Bawah’s jungle to immerse yourself in nature. Three marked trails offer spectacular views of the coastline and the Baku Tokong and surrounding islands, and don’t miss the 500-year-old Keruing tree nicknamed ‘King of Our Jungle’. Expert guides are also available to lead you through the flora and fauna and sunrise or sunset.
Unveiling Bawah Reserve
This one-hour walking tour will reveal the hidden stories behind the building of Bawah Reserve, which took seven years to complete by hand. You’ll learn about the process of building on the previously uninhabited islands and how new engineering has been combined with traditional Indonesian building methods such as making rock walls and weaving bamboo.
The Organic Gardens
Bawah’s permaculture walk showcases its organic permaculture gardens and g
ives a deeper look at the sustainable practices in place at the resort. You can also explore the natural ingredients through a classes with Bawah’s bartenders to make your own garden-to-glass cocktails using the gardens’ bounty of produce.
Protect And Preserve
Bawah Reserve has been designed with sustainability at every level. From the resort’s design and construction, which uses sustainable sources of bamboo and reclaimed and recycled woods, to the organic and local sourced cuisine, Bawah has been created to respect and preserve the natural environment. The remote location means that Bawah’s islands have their own independent ecosystem which the resort is passionate about protecting through a series of conservation efforts, from providing nesting beaches for sea turtles to using solar enegry and saving water.
Savour Indonesian Sustainable Cuisine
Bawah’s four restaurants and bars creatively combine Indonesian flavors and locally sourced produce with Mediterranean influences. Fresh vegetables, herbs and fruit comes straight from the resort’s organic gardens, and wild-caught fish is freshly caught from the surrounding waters for a sustainable taste of the island. By day guests can put their feet in the sand at a beachside restaurant serving laidback lunches and head to the canopy of the treetops by night for a fine dining experience with a breathtaking view of the lagoon.
A Spa Nestled In Nature
Nestled in the island’s beachfront jungle, Aura Spa offers guests a luxurious immersion in nature to enhance physical and mental wellbeing. Activities such as Pilates and sunrise qigong on the beach have been designed to relax both body and the mind whilst tropical spa experiences, ranging from sea salt scrubs and locally sourced Ayurvedic oil massages will soothe away any stress with healing ingredients picked straight from the island.
